Little League Baseball for Three

One summer I decided to sign all three of my children up for Little League, I thought, “I can do anything for eight weeks.” Had I only realized the number of hot dog dinners I was going to eat I might have changed my mind. For eight weeks I went from field to field dragging my hot dog dinner along catching part of each kiddos game and never seeing one in its entirety. At the end of the season everyone had had a great time and we were ready to intentionally enjoy the rest of summer.

Day one we (Mom, Dad, and Kiddos) made a list of what we wanted to do this summer. Everyone chimed in and our list included

  • Lake Michigan for the day
  • Multiple trips to the library
  • Free time at home
  • Play dates
  • Sleepovers
  • Camping
  • Trips to Grandma’s house

After we made the list we prioritized. Which of these activities is the most important and how often to we want to visit Grandma or go to the beach? Finally, I sat down and scheduled it all out and made sure there was plenty of time for “boredom” because that is where creativity is born.

Our family summers weren’t full of expensive trips and tons of activities but they were full of fun times, bike rides, and swimming. We had a simple schedule and enjoyed life.
